Hamas demonstration

Up to 2000 Hamas supporters are currently marching through Rafah in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Gaza terminals

Today, 174 Palestinian workers entered Israel and 65 factory owners into Erez industrial zone. An additional 62 merchants were allowed to enter Israel, the first time such access has been permitted since the start of the disengagement two weeks ago.

Patients and "humanitarian" cases are being allowed to cross into Israel with coordination from the Israeli DCL.

Rafah terminal remains open for passenger movement in and out of Gaza, although coordination is still required for Palestinian males aged 16 to 35 years.

Karni and Nahal Oz have been open each day since Monday, 22 August when they closed to coincide with the evacuation of Netzarim.

IDF soldier injured

An IDF soldier sustained light injuries from Palestinian gun fire near Morag settlement two hours ago. The IDF responded with gunfire into the nearby At Tatra area.

Rafah terminal

Eight Palestinian passport officers have been permitted to work inside the Rafah passenger terminal in conjunction with Israeli officials for the purposes of processing Palestinian passport applications.

This arrangement existed before September 2000 but thereafter Palestinian officials were forced to work at separate offices to the north of the terminal.

Philidelphi Corridor

The Israeli cabinet on Sunday approved the handover of the Philidelphi corridor to Egyptian control. Knesset approval will be required at a special session to be convened this Wednesday with a parliamentary majority expected to approve the decision. A complete Israeli withdrawal from Philidelphi is expected to take place bfore the Jewish new year in early October.

Egyptian border guards will deploy along a 14 km stretch of land from the coast to Kibbutz Kerem Shalom and will be backed up by four coast guard boats and eight unarmed helicopters. The Egyptian deployment will comprise 750 border guards and 30 naval officers.

The IDF has started to dismantle the observation post at Salah el Din road/Netzarim junction.

Neveh Dekalim graves

Haartez is reporting that agreement has been reached between the Disengagement Authority and the families of the 48 people buried in Neveh Dekalim cemetery to have the graves moved to sites within the Green Line. The first transfer took place on Sunday with further reinterments expected throughout this week.
